The ProShares Short QQQ ETF (PSQ) - USD is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) designed and administered by ProShares. This ETF offers a financial product that allows investors to speculate on or hedge against potential deceleration in the performance of the NASDAQ-100 Index without having to engage in a short-selling strategy. The objective of PSQ is to track the inverse daily performance of the NASDAQ-100 Index; that is, if the Index decreases by 1%, then PSQ would ostensibly aim to increase by a corresponding 1% (before fees and expenses). Yet, it's important to note that this correlation applies just for one day only, not longer periods. This is due to the fund's strategy of resetting its exposure each day, thus intra-day investment value can fluctuate. Being constructed as an inverse ETF, PSQ provides access to well-known companies that operate mainly in the technology sector of U.S. equity markets including computer hardware and software, telecommunications, retail services, and biotechnology sectors among others. However, investors interested in this instrument should be aware that it doesn't invest directly in these equities but rather uses index swap agreements with different financial institutions to create the inverse exposure effect. The PSQ ETF could serve as a tool for those seeking to partially offset risks associated with market downturns or for sophisticated investors who understand the dynamics of reverse index tracking. It's essential to remember that this tool requires constant monitoring and understanding due to its unique nature and daily resetting properties.
