DAX Index
The DAX index is the best-known German stock market index. It includes the 40 largest companies trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the world's 12th largest stock exchange by market capitalization.
This index is frequently used to represent the performance of the German stock market. Prior to September 2021, the index used to include only 30 components, the number of constituents was increased for a better representativeness of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. It includes only the top large-cap stocks, which is, in fact, a small proportion of all companies traded in Germany. The same can also be said for other indexes that serve as flagships indexes for their country like the FTSE 100 in the UK or the CAC 40 in France.
