Simplify Volt Pop Culture Disruption ETF (VPOP) rose as much as 47% Friday on news that Digital World Acquisition Corp. ($DWAC), one of its largest holdings, will merge with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed media company, the Trump Media & Technology Group. VPOP closed the week up by 10%. 

DWAC skyrocketed by 284% at some point on Friday and closed up by 107%, with multiple stoppages on various trading platforms due to volatility. Friday’s rally brought the SPAC’s two-day gains to more than 830%, giving it its AMC and GameStop moment. The yet-to-be launched company will create a social media app called "Truth Social", which main mission according to related parties, is to go against rival corporate media and fight back against "Big tech" companies, including Twitter and Facebook, which have silenced Trump in the last election by suspending his official accounts.

VPOP is a small actively managed ETF with $2.42 million in assets. The fund invests in companies set to be leaders in pop culture, including social media, streaming media and internet-of-things (IoT) companies. Its top holdings include the recently popping Digital World Acquisition Corp. with 30.68%, followed by Snap (12.76%), Netflix (9.54%), Spotify Technologies (5.55%) and Tesla (4.78%).

The ETF has added layer of sophisticated options to create convexity in the portfolio to enhance the upside while improving drawdowns. Since inception on December 28th, 2020 the fund has generated a cumulative loss of -3.55%. The fund trades on the New York Stock Exchange and charges 0.95% in annual fees.
