Like many areas of the fixed income market, municipal bonds have gotten off to a rough start in 2022. Their -6.23% drawdown in the first quarter marked their worst quarter since 1981 - worse than any quarter during the Global Financial Crisis, the brief Meredith Whitney-driven muni default scare in late 2010, or the “Taper Tantrum” of 2013.
