I've covered managed futures mutual funds a few times before, but it was recently brought to my attention that these funds (along with a few of their new low-cost ETF variants) are a subset of a much larger asset class termed "liquid alternatives", or "liquid alts" for short.
The name stems from two features: these investments hold assets outside of traditional long-only stocks and bonds, and they can be easily bought and sold, unlike investments in traditional hedge funds which are usually subject to lock-up periods.
